The open weave is the point: it is what lets this hat be rolled and recover. A soft crown, an 8 cm brim with a wired edge you can bend to shape, and a cotton sweatband. It packs rolled, brim around the crown, and comes out needing a shake and perhaps ten minutes in a steamy bathroom.
An open weave lets some sun through - you will see pinpricks of light on your face - so it is less shade than the tight braid of the wide-brim hat. It is also the hat that is easiest to snag on a bag zip.
